Pipe Creek Stream Clean-Up - March 27th, 9am

Help us clean our stream! We will clean up several locations along Pipe Creek. Meet at the Blockbuster parking lot on Rt 250 in Perkins Township. Please dress appropriately, warm clothes, and boots a must! Plan on getting dirty. Clean-up supplies, gloves, vests, provided. Beverages and snacks also provided.

Great American Clean-Up Event - March 27th, 9am - noon
In partnership with ODOT, BGSU Firelands Environmental Science Club will be picking up litter along Rye Beach & Rt. 2 interchange; interested parties should call Erie County Solid Waste District at 419.433.7303 ext 250.

Dessert with the Friends - Guest Speaker - March 29 from 7pm-8pm
Join the Friends of Old Woman Creek as they host a presentation titled: State of Our Streams. Breann Hohman, watershed coordinator of the Firelands Coastal Tributaries, showcases local streams through images of beauty and disaster to show how unique and fragile our natural areas are. State of Our Streams also provides a light-hearted discussion linking our actions to water quality issues and what we can do to improve our streams. Please join us for this presentation and discussion. Assorted desserts and beverages will be provided by The Friends.

Movie Night! Dirt! The Movie - March 30th, 6pm - 7:30pm
Come enjoy a movie on us! Winner of several awards including an award at the 2009 Mali International Film Festival for best green documentary, this is a story of the relationship between humans and dirt. The movie teaches us: "When humans arrived 2 million years ago, everything changed for dirt. And from that moment on, the fate of dirt and humans has been intimately linked. Dirt The Movie, humorously details how humans are rapidly destroying the last natural resource on earth from Dirt's point of view. Tribs Team Volunteer Stream Monitoring Training - April 10th, 9am- 4pm
Do you want to be a volunteer stream monitor? We will be holding a training for our volunteer monitoring program for instruction on chemical water sampling protocol and macroinvertebrate sampling and identification. Rain Gardens: Stream and Lake Friendly Landscaping - April 13th 6pm-8pm

Areas landscaped with perennial native plants that don't mind getting "wet feet", rain gardens are an attractive way to reduce the impact of stormwater on streams and Lake Erie. Rain gardens are designed to capture and filter stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces such as rooftops and driveways. Learn about these systems and take home a guidebook containing information on how to select a site, a design, and plant your own!

Learn to identify early common wildflowers of the woods and about flower folklore with Breann Hohman, Firelands Coastal Tributaries Watershed Coordinator, Erie Soil and Water Conservation District. Bring along a copy of Newcomb's Guide to Wildflowers and practice using the key. Ages 12+. Dress for weather. Terrain: gravel/paved trails, hills, stairs. Length: 1.5 miles

Volunteer Opportunities at Old Woman Creek Reserve - May 29th, 1pm - 4pm
Drop in at the Visitor Center and see what you can do to help Old Woman Creek Reserve care for and teach people about the estuary. We are looking for energetic folks who are interested in the environment. Many opportunities are available, indoor and outdoor work, training program, flexible hours. All that is missing is you!

Old Woman Creek Reserve 30th Anniversary - September 4th, 10am-4pm
Come celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the only National Estuarine Research Reserve in the Great Lakes! Learn how research at the Reserve increases understanding and conservation of coastal wetlands and how it relates to you. Laboratory tours, research seminars and demonstrations, monarch butterfly tagging, and guided trail walks offered throughout event.
