Facts |
| 1. Samuel
Patterson established The Berlin Fruit Box Company here in Ohio
in 1858. He provided fruit and vegetable baskets to local orchards
and farms; the baskets were handmade from wood, starting with
logs harvested in nearby forests. (website, samuelpattersonbaskets.com) |
| 2. Several
archaeological sites overlooking Old Woman Creek estuary have
been investigated. These sides document occupation by Paleo-Indian,
Archaic and Woodland peoples. All the sites occupy high ground
overlooking the resource rich estuaries or stream valleys. (OWC
Site profile, 8-10) |
| 3.
During the 19th century, historical records indicate that saw
mills, sandstone quarries, grist mills and at least one salt
well were situated within the Old Woman Creek watershed. (OWC
Site profile, 9-2) |

1819. |
